The Centre for Young Musicians (CYM) is a division of the Guildhall School and provides high quality progressive music training for thousands of talented children across the country. The original Centre is based at Morley College in London, close to Waterloo and the South Bank, and also has branches in Norwich, Taunton, Saffron Walden, Bristol and Peterborough. CYM teaching staff are experienced and respected performers and teachers working in many areas of the music profession. Many CYM students go on to careers in music but all benefit from the skills gained in the vibrant, inclusive and stimulating environment that CYM provides.
As part of our expansion and development of the service at Norfolk Centre for Young Musicians (NCYM) in Norwich, we are seeking staff for September 2017 in the following posts :
Responsibilities include tutoring two highly successful string ensembles, a newly formed strings group for beginners, a general musicianship class and assisting with the Norfolk Intermediate Youth Orchestra. Experience of Dalcroze/Kodally teaching methods would be desirable.
The role is initially to teach eight individual Oboe lessons. NCYM will also be introducing a Double Reed Ensemble in September 2017 and there is potential for developing this role to include more individual and ensemble teaching at NCYM and at local schools.
GCSE Music Technology Teacher
This role is to support NCYM students taking music GCSE, A level and Music Technology.
Opportunities for staff to take part in ensemble coaching are also available as part of the developing work of the centre.
The NCYM operates on 30 Saturdays of the Academic Year at City of Norwich School. Although a deputy system is in place to cover exceptional circumstances and illness, tutors are expected to attend each week.
